This is an exciting time in the life of Alterna. In the short time we have been operating we have been able to achieve many things. We have refined our Doña Dora woodstoves and launched the woman-to-woman sales model. There are four first-generation biodigesters operating in a community near the southwest coast of Guatemala. There we are learning about how rural Guatemalans incorporate the technology into their lives and the challenges they face along the way. Our microhydro business is executing its first installation in a coffee farm in the eastern part of the country. We have also brought together a group of previously unconnected organic fertilizer producers in order to improve their business plans and access financing to help them grow their operations.

These achievements have all been possible through the tremendous efforts of our team, in spite of our shoe-string budget. However, in order to continue our work and keep these projects growing need your help. By donating to Alterna you will help us to achieve our 2011 goals, including:

• Grow the network of community saleswomen and launch full-scale production for the Doña Dora woodstove.
• Complete the biodigester pilot project and refine the technology and technical support processes in order to bring our biodigesters in line with the needs of small Guatemalan farmers.
• Set the bases for our micro-hydroelectric business to succeed as an independently operating business.
